Support for organisations

At Ocki, we know you are investing a lot in getting your corporate sustainability strategy right. We want to help you realise your ambitions. That means embedding sustainability throughout every part of the organisation and ensuring sustainability is part of every employee’s role.

We appreciate that it isn’t easy or straightforward. Ocki research conducted in late 2022 revealed that most employees struggle to see how sustainability is relevant to their role and need help to translate corporate targets into day-to-day actions.

We are looking to work with organisations to help them develop the tools and approaches they need to engage and empower employees on sustainability.

Learn, be inspired, get active

There are no quick fixes, but best practice suggests there are three elements to successfully engaging all non-specialists in sustainability:

  • Learn: We help non-specialists develop the core knowledge and basic literacy that they need to get to grips with a broad range of sustainability issues;
  • Be inspired: We want to create a vision of a sustainable world, helping employees understand the better future we are working towards and identify the practical actions they can take at at work, and potentially at home; and
  • Get active: We are looking to work with organisations to create the culture, tools and opportunities that employees need to get started and progress on their sustainability journey.

We want to explore with organisations what these activities look like in the workplace.

We want to hear from you

We have lots of ideas on how to empower everyone to live and work sustainably. Together, we want to identify the ideas that are most useful to your organisation. Please get in touch to discuss how we can help you to embed sustainability in your business.

To get the discussion going, here are some of our ideas.

  • Learn: Our ‘Get the knowledge’ articles provide the fundamental knowledge that employees need to get to grips with a broad range of sustainability issues and understand how these issues impact different products and services. We plan to supplement that with ‘Get the skills’ articles that show how action on sustainability helps to develop the leadership, creativity and problem-solving skills and the resilience needed for the future world of work. Building on this, we could also develop more structured training or learning & development modules.
  • Be inspired: Through articles, case studies and community events, Ocki will highlight sustainability in action, help employees to identify the actions that they can take to live and work more sustainably and identify the best practices that can be introduced into your organisation.
  • Get active: Taking action on sustainability also enhances wellbeing and job fulfilment, boosting motivation and retention. We plan to develop the practical support that employees need to initiate conversations about sustainability, take action and develop new skills. Tools include: an employee engagement playbook; checklists helping to factor sustainability into every work decision; and role profiles to help employees understand how to translate sustainability into their day-to-day activities. We are also implementing deliberative participation methods to help engage people in complex decision-making to build knowledge and trust in corporate governance.

We’re sure you have other ideas too. We’d love to hear from you about what would work for your business (getintouch@ockisustainability.com).

Why get involved?

We passionately believe that raising employee awareness of sustainability is critical if we are all able to live and work more sustainably. Successful employee engagement will help your organisation to:

  • implement sustainability strategies effectively, efficiently and at scale;
  • optimise sustainability strategies with input from across the organisation;
  • integrate sustainability into all aspects of operations;
  • improve recruitment, retention, motivation and wellbeing of employees;
  • develop a future-focused workforce;
  • deliver on customer and shareholder demands for more sustainable operations; and
  • demonstrate commitment and support efforts to achieve sustainability accreditation.

As well as advancing your sustainability strategy, Ocki believes that raising awareness on sustainability dovetails closely with existing company activities to support employee wellbeing and inclusion, such as financial wellbeing programmes.

There is plenty of evidence that people are worried about the climate and nature crisis and social issues. They want to live more sustainably, but lack the knowledge, information and support to adapt their lifestyles. The gap between intention and action is potentially an opportunity for employers to build stronger, more positive relationships with their employees by helping to raise awareness, inspire and activate their workers.

Ocki provides independent and balanced information, and is passionate about the value of sustainability to drive businesses to operate for the benefit of people and the planet.
