Ocki has teamed up with the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability to launch a survey to better understand the status of employee engagement in sustainability. Previous quantitative research indicates that many organisations struggle to harness the power of their employees to deliver sustainability. The survey aims to surface barriers and solutions to help organisations meet growing demands.
Ocki and the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability have launched a survey to investigate how organisations engage their employees in sustainability.
The survey builds on qualitative research Ocki completed last year, which indicated that only a fraction of employees are effectively engaged in their organisation’s sustainability activities. This is despite the fact that senior leadership recognise that their people play a critical role in delivering the commitments and targets that have been made.
The survey aims to generate quantitative data that will help identify possible barriers and solutions to engaging and empowering employees to act on sustainability.
The pressure for organisations to tackle sustainability-related risks is likely to increase with the advent of stricter legislation and growing stakeholder demands. For example, when the EU’s corporate sustainability reporting Directive (CSRD) kicks in, from 2025, certain companies will have to report material risks across environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Many sustainability leads are still struggling to systematically engage their people so that they understand their role in tackling the risks and grasping the opportunities that will be surfaced by this legislation.
The survey, which is designed to be completed by sustainability professionals, will be open until 29 March. The results, assessment and recommendations will be shared with Ocki’s community and ICRS’s membership.
Once sustainability people have been surveyed, Ocki plans to work with other professional bodies, to obtain the views of different functions regarding their role in delivering sustainability. If you work for such a body, and would like to partner with us on these surveys please email info@ockisustainability.com
